“The Gathering of Mada”
The Newsletter of the Madagascar Antananarivo Mission
“And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.” (2 Nephi 21:12)
NEWS FLASH!!!
Proverbs 25:25 “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.”
President Foote just received word on Thursday, 11 January 2018, that approval has been given to open up one city in Madagascar for the return of missionaries! President has been working weekly with South Africa and the Missionary Committee of the Church for several weeks to make the news of the reopening reality. It is believed that the rest of the mission will follow quickly.
This first wave of the return will start with 12 missionaries who will fly to Antananarivo on Wednesday of this week. These will be missionaries returning from the Zambia, South Africa Durban, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Reunion, and California missions. After a few days in Tana, these missionaries will fly to Fort Dauphin, where there was not a single case of the plague during the recent epidemic, to begin proselyting once again in that city, reopening the land to full-time missionaries.
“Our prayers have been answered,” beamed an immensely happy President Foote over the phone. Expressing his gratitude to all you missionaries, he said, “Thanks for continuing to work so hard and faithfully during this time wherever your assignment has taken you. We ask you to continue to represent Madagascar well wherever you are in the world, work hard and prepare for the return.”
More news will be forthcoming in the coming few days and weeks. But for now, we are going back to Madagascar. Our thoughts and heartfelt thanks go to all those who accepted us into their hearts and missions and fields of labor, for those companions who worked with us and trained us in new countries and areas, for mission presidents who lovingly took us in, for God’s children in other lands we came to love. It has been an amazing time.
