A Mission is Full of Unexpected Things

From the mom:  We got word  in a newsletter this weekend that they will be reopening the Madagascar mission this week.  They will be sending 12 missionaries in to reopen an area and prepare for the rest of the missionaries to return hopefully within the month.  After talking to Sam today, Sam received a phone call that he would be one of the 12  missionaries. He still has not received any travel information so he is trying to continue to focus on what he is doing in California.  But needless to say, he is SO EXCITED!!!  He said "my heart skipped a beat  and I just started freaking out and shivering with excitement."  I can tell he still wonders if it is too good to be true. (He was afraid to talk about it in his group email...doesn't want to jinx it)  I can tell he won't believe it until he is on the plane heading back.  I ask that you keep Sam and all of the Mada missionaries and their wonderful mission President, who has worked so hard to make this happen, in your prayers as they make this transition back to their beloved Madagascar!

Hello,

The mission is full of unexpected things. Last week we were out and about when someone at Jack in the box was stabbed. There were cops driving up and down the streets and a helicopter flying around. It was crazy.

We also received a referral a couple of days ago and when we tried to visit it we found ourselves out in the middle of nowhere. All of a sudden we were driving down a dirt road at night and kept seeing private property signs every where. Then to add onto that, six dogs jumped out at our car dashing in front of our headlights. It scared the bajeebus out of me. When we finally found the house far in the back we knocked on the door. A lady moved her blinds over and as soon as she saw us she yelled, "Go away and never come back!" We humbly obliged that recluse of a women and shortly apologized adding, "have a good night..."

There is a good quote that I heard this last week. "Knowledge is not power if it is not sustained by character."

Sincerely,
Elder Allen
